4/30/04 We moved!                          Our new address:   4856 NW 116 Ct, Doral, FL  33178

Hard to belive it's been one year since we moved from our condo in Hollyood!

It's been a great year.  Thanks to all of our friends & family, we were able to put some color to our walls, created a "tropical paradise" patio, added wood blinds to most of our windows, and hung beautiful artwork!

We are so happy with the way our townhouse is turning out!  We love living in the Doral area.  There are quite a mix of people and businesses around here.  Matthew loves having the Turnpike in our backyard.  I love being 10 minutes from work and coming home for lunch.

Matt: I have lived with white walls all my life. My first official project will be to paint the interior of the house.   And, boy did we add some color!

AFTER:

During Hurricane Frances, I took the opportunity (out of boredom from being inside the house for 3 days!) to take some pictures of our home.  Neither Matt nor I went to UF, but somehow flaming orange & blue fit our living room decor.

Soon after we moved in, and once the inside of the house was livable, I took a day off from work and went to Homestead to pick up some bargain plants to put in our very empty patio.  $150 dollars later, I drove off with 4 Traveler Palms, 4 arecas, one bromeliad and 2 yellow flower plants.  There were leaves coming out of everywhere in the Escape.  I did not want to take the Turnpike as I could not see anything off my back view mirror!  So, I took the back roads to make it back to the house.  A couple of weeks later, a frind we met during the Coral Nursery Dive gave us a few more plants:  bamboo, banana tree, and a papaya tree.  The papaya tree has bloomed twice!  I can't wait until the fruit is ready to eat!

In just one year, the Palms have gotten so big! The big leaves are not 2 feet higher than the fence. Our patio faces West.  When we come home from work, Matt and I love to sit in our living room, open the blue blinds and watch the beautiful sunset behind the green palm trees.  Some days it's really breathtaking.

My father had tickets to the Home show.  This is a very dangerous place to be when you are a new home owner!  So, Matthew and I went "window shopping".  We are divers, we are not home owners, right?! We were not going to be sucked into this crazy world of home upkeeping.  Within an hour, we had spent our budget and then some!!  The first thing we found was an awning that was perfect for our patio.  Then, walking through one of the many "artsy" shops, we both saw them... they were perfect... we gave each other that look "I'm afraid to ask how much they are, but they are just so right".  So we did ask, and yes, they were a lot more money that I've ever dreamed of paying for "art", but thanks to Wayne & Cyn's generous housewarming gift, we were able to pick up two beautiful oil originals that we hung behind the walls of our staircase (the only white walls in the entire house).  Here is one of them:

Our dinning room is yellow.  And, we painted the archways dark blue.  No, not because they are the colors of my favourite soccer team Boca Juniors... we just get crazy like that!  :-)

Notice the painting on the left wall.  My parents brought it for us from Argentina.  It's an original oil painting replica of Quinquela Martin's painting.  He was a famous painter from Buenos Aires whose artwork captured the colorful city of "La Boca".  http://www.galarroyo.com/nuevo/trastienda/quinque.htm
